    Abstract:
Rooted Resistance III is the continuation of our annual professional development workshop (PDW) on the intersection of marginalization, identity, and self-presentation. We apply a scholarly lens in examining the ever-evolving platforms of individual self-presentation, both in-person and digital outlets, as well as the increasing valuation placed on authenticity in professional settings. Due to the success (e.g., well attended, continued engagement) of the previous Rooted Resistance sessions, we are pleased to offer a third Rooted Resistance gathering as a PDW to bolster scholarship and pedagogy in these areas. Specifically, this session's primary objective is to advance scholarship focused on the intersection of aesthetics, marginalization, and the resistance of self-presentation norms which uphold identity-based social hierarchies. We foster scholarship in these areas through three in-session modules: (1) Aesthetics as Collective Resistance, (2) Aesthetics as Research Generation, and (3) Aesthetics as Pedagogical Practice. Within these modules, we will offer presentations, interactive activities, and meaningful discussions among participants. Attendees will leave having joined our digital (and in-person) Rooted Resistance scholarly community, and will also have added materials and ideas to use in their research and teaching efforts.
