The Division celebrates difference and supports human rights. We were recently reminded that AOM policy prohibits leaders from taking a stand in the name of the Academy (including its Divisions and Interest Groups, Journals, Committees, etc.), regardless of the individual or leadership team position. This has necessitated the removal of several statements from our AOMConnect page which we made as an Executive Committee in respect to world events and issues.
We had issued statements on: the Reversal of the Affirmative Action Decision, the Political Climate and Attack on DEI, the Dobbs Decision, and the Iran Movement. AOM organizational policy defines that such taking a stand behavior may occur only under rare and exceptional circumstances that pervasively threaten the existence, purpose, or functioning of the AOM.
